The Sukhoi Su-20 is a Soviet variable-geometry fighter-attack aircraft, which was the export version of the Su-17. Both aircraft (the Su-17 and the Su-20) were very similar. However, they differed in terms of their powerplant – the Su-20 was fitted with a Lulka AL-21F engine. In the USSR, this modernised version of the Su-17 was designated the Su-17M, whilst the export variant was designated the Su-20. A reconnaissance version, the Su-20R, was also developed. This aircraft was primarily supplied to Poland (from 1974), where it served with the 7th Bomber and Reconnaissance Aviation Brigade at Powidz. During its service, the Polish Air Force adapted its Su-20 aircraft to carry KKR reconnaissance pods. Technical specifications: length: 19.02 m, wingspan (with wings folded): 10.02 m, height: 5.1 m, maximum speed: 1.7 Ma, rate of climb: 230 m/s, maximum range: 2,250 km, armament: fixed – 2 × NR-30 30 mm cannons, external – up to 4,070 kg of payload.
