M109 - American self-propelled howitzer developed to replace the M44 SPH vehicles.
The order was placed in 1952, the first serial units left the assembly halls in 1962. After introducing numerous improvements, the M109 became the most popular self-propelled howitzer in the world. Vehicles of this type took part in the Vietnam conflict, the Arab-Israeli wars and the Iran-Iraq war.
The United States has sold vehicles of this type to almost 30 countries.
The M109 can, after adaptation, swim across water obstacles and fire various types of missiles, including tactical nuclear artillery ammunition. The gun has a screw lock and is not equipped with an automatic loader - loading is done manually.
